Considered to be Leonardo da Vinci's most enigmatic and labored works, the Mona Lisa is an oil on wood painting from the Italian Renaissance is an icon of western culture or, the best thing that man is capable of doing. The study of Western Art is a journey of self-discovery through understanding past art movements and the issues that inspire the changes in art. The Renaissance period in Europe was a synthesis of the past with the future, combining the Classical with the Christian to create what is now contemporary western civilization, and the Mona Lisa more than any other image represents that radical paradigm shift.
